Q61 NAIL AND PERSONAL BEAUTY SALON DIRECTOR, HELENA LINSKY, REVEALS THE TOP NAIL TRENDS FOR VALENTINE’S DAY 2019
There is no better reason to treat yourself to a manicure than a date night, and Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to try a sexy, statement look. When it comes to Valentine’s Day nails, many of our clients at Q61 request a classic red – a bold, dramatic look-at-me colour making it an ideal date-night look. With such a huge range of scarlet shades, there really is a tone of red to suit every skintone, nail shape and wardrobe. At Q61, we have installed a Colour Runway in our recently launched Harrogate salon. This nail station comprises a 1.7 metre long ‘runway’ featuring a vast collection of more than 150 nail colours including seasonal tones, gels, lacquers and glitters, displayed in a visually accessible design – so our clients have a huge range of reds to choose from for their Valentine’s Day look. The choice of red shade can really alter the overall effect of red nails, so it’s important to discuss this with your nail technician when it comes to picking a colour, especially if you’re a red novice.
This Valentine’s Day we’re taking our scarlet inspiration from the catwalk, and giving our clients red nails that are less classic and more edgy. We loved the reverse French mani in two near-identical shades of red, as seen at Veronica Beard’s NYFW show, and the sheer red squared acrylic talons at Area’s S/S ‘19 show. Red is a classic colour, so wearing it in an unexpected way keeps it looking modern.
The length and shape of the nail is very important in determining whether red nails come across as vampish, elegant or pretty, so we always check with clients what kind of look they want to portray. The ‘squoval’ shape made popular by the likes of Khloe Kardashian and Kylie Jenner is still popular, and when paired with a bold, orange-toned red, makes for a fiercely attention- demanding date-night look. For a more subtle statement look, retain the length but opt for a softer oval shaped tip, or go for a slightly shorter, gently squared off style.
Interesting nail art can speak volumes, so if you want to let your nails do all the talking on your Valentine’s Day date, why not opt for a playful and original design, using shades of red against nude. At Q61 we’ve created a look that combines lengthy oval tips with a love-heart design in cherry red. We predict this wearable combination of a vampy shape, a sweet design and a sexy shade will be in hot demand with our clients this Valentine’s Day.
